This compilation selected by Gezellig Records from Hualun's work series of “wʌndərlænd”.

Hualun (花伦) is a rock band from Wuhan, China, since 2004. Since experiencing the early years of Wuhan punk scene, we have been exploring new music directions. From the end of 2017, we launched the experiment project named “wʌndərlænd” (till the end of 2019), started an adventure focused on sound, tone and atmosphere.

The works in “wʌndərlænd” present the most lush side in our way of creation, with new possibilities to be discovered all along the way. You can join us on a sound experience with this album, and then explore the source of natural growth through the music. Once connected by you and others, “wʌndərlænd” will become something real.

LiveChina Music calls Hualun’s recent creations “gorgeous tracks of atmospheric, world-building, soundscapes that burrow into your psyche”. And RADII describes their sounds as “soft and fragile […] seemingly ready to fall away at any moment.” Both “Roller” and “A Penguin Called Todd” were featured in playlists and radio shows from WIRE UK. Their score for Hu Bo’s An Elephant Sitting Still was listed as one of The Film Stage’s best original scores in 2019. Hualun recently created an original score to the Yung Chang documentary WUHAN WUHAN, which premiered at DOC NYC.

Hualun is a constantly evolving group, anchored by guitarist Zooo and synth wizard Ding Mao. They’ve experimented with instrumental rock to cinematic post-rock, from original film scores to “homework” type sound experiments, where the wʌndərlænd album falls. Known as a group of musicians who rely on their intuition, they are leaders in experimenting with sound, and exploring the source of natural growth with their music.
